    1. Professional surveys go out of their way to collect a representative sample of the population. The Stack Overflow survey (and tech surveys in general) are heavily biased towards white men from the US (to no one’s surprise). I hope nobody makes decisions based on these results.

    Tech surveys should include a huge disclaimer, to clarify the sample has been “Stack Overflow” or “insert tech bubble here”. Not programmers in general.

      If Stack Overflow is truly > 90 % men, that may explain the toxicity there. But let me tell you: if you follow a diverse group of developers, things get nicer quite a lot. These surveys paint an unfortunate picture that may not reflect reality (at all).
